Write the Code: Colors to Shapes 4

    * Available in A4 & US Letter formats

This Write the Code: Colors to Shapes worksheet begins Set 2, introducing children to an expanded color–shape key while keeping the same familiar activity format.

Children continue to apply a simple rule, matching colors to shapes, but now with more options to choose from. This encourages careful observation, stronger memory skills, and thoughtful decision making, all while remaining fun and approachable.

    What’s Included in This Worksheet

This worksheet is designed to gently extend learning and includes:

    • A six color shape key displayed clearly at the top of the page
    • Six familiar colors, each paired with a simple, recognizable shape
    • Five new coding problems, each showing four colors in a mixed order
    • Large drawing spaces that allow children to draw shapes comfortably
    • A clean, uncluttered layout that supports focus and independence

Although more colors are introduced, the structure remains the same so children can concentrate on applying the rule rather than learning a new layout.

How This Worksheet Builds on Previous Learning

In Set 1, children learned how to:

    • Identify colors
    • Match each color to a shape
    • Draw shapes accurately

In this worksheet, they use those same skills while also:

    • Holding more information in mind
    • Checking the key more carefully
    • Slowing down and thinking before drawing

This gradual progression helps children grow confident without feeling overwhelmed.

    How to Use This Worksheet

This worksheet works well in both guided and independent settings:

    1. Review the six color shape key together before starting.
    2. Ask your child to name each color and shape to reinforce understanding.
    3. Encourage drawing one shape at a time, checking the key when unsure.
    4. Remind children that it’s okay to pause and think before drawing.
    5. Review the completed worksheet together and discuss how the rule was followed.

This activity can be completed with pencils, crayons, or washable markers and reused when placed in a dry-erase sleeve.

    Skills This Worksheet Supports

Completing this worksheet helps children strengthen:

    • Logical thinking and reasoning
    • Rule following
    • Shape recognition
    • Visual discrimination
    • Working memory
    • Fine motor coordination
    • Early drawing control

These skills are important foundations for later learning in math, writing, and problem solving.

Why Expanding the Color Shape Key Is Helpful

Introducing more colors and shapes encourages children to:

    • Look more carefully
    • Compare options
    • Double check their answers

This kind of thoughtful checking is an important early learning habit and supports attention and self regulation.

    Who This Worksheet Is For

    This worksheet is suitable for:

    • Preschool classrooms
    • Kindergarten readiness activities
    • Homeschool learning
    • Early learning centers
    • At-home practice with parents

Children can complete worksheets in any order, but working through the series helps build confidence step by step.
