Free Pre-Writing Worksheets for Preschoolers
Free printable pre-writing worksheets for preschool and kindergarten children. Before learning letters, children need to build pencil control and hand strength through stroke practice — horizontal lines, vertical lines, curves, loops, and more. Each worksheet isolates one stroke pattern so children can focus on one movement at a time.
All worksheets are available in A4 and US Letter sizes. Laminate them or slide them into a dry-erase sleeve so children can practise the same sheet as many times as needed without wasting ink or paper.
Once children are comfortable with these strokes, move on to alphabet tracing or number writing.

Basic Strokes
The foundation of all handwriting. Horizontal and vertical line tracing builds pencil control and teaches children to move across the page with confidence.
Curved Strokes
Curved lines prepare children for round letters like C, O, G, and D. These exercises build the smooth wrist movement needed for flowing handwriting.
Loops and Peaks
Loop and peak patterns introduce more complex pencil movements. These directly prepare children for letters with tall loops, tails, and pointed tops.
