These subtraction worksheets introduce "taking away" through simple, visual problems. On each page, a child counts a group of pictures, subtracts the amount shown after the minus sign, and writes the total in the box. The first problem in every set shows diagonal cross-out lines through the removed items, so children can see exactly what subtraction means before working through the rest on their own.
Each set uses a different picture theme, keeping the format familiar while giving children something new to count every time: fruit, animals, nature, ocean animals, and everyday objects.
How to Use These Worksheets
- Print on A4 or US Letter paper.
- Start with the first problem in each set — count the full group, look at the crossed-out items, and count what's left.
- For the remaining problems, count the first group, then take away the second number shown after the minus sign.
- Write the answer in the box, using the 1–10 number line at the bottom for support if needed.
- Encourage your child to read each equation aloud, for example "four strawberries take away two strawberries equals two strawberries." Saying it out loud reinforces the math vocabulary alongside the calculation.
